This weekend the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. People are enjoying Hanami, which in English would be “cherry blossom viewing.” Actually it’s just an excuse for some people to get really drunk!

This photo was taken in the Tsukuda area of Tsukishima Island, which is located in Chuo-Ku (ward of Tokyo.)
Tsukishima (literally “moon island”) is an island that was made from reclaimed land. Take a look at this page from Japan Reference’s website to see a great aerial view of this island (bottom of the page.)

A New Police Box
Ginza
Here is an example of a more modern police box. Yes, the one with the two frogs on top! There are many different styles of police boxes in Japan. This one is located in the famous Ginza area; not all look this nice.
In Japanese, these police boxes are called Koban (kouban.) Here is an interesting article that mentions the Koban system.
